Harmony Clair is a Los Angeles native and classically trained ballet dancer with a career in both performance and dance education. At the age of 12, she began attending the School of American Ballet in New York City on full scholarship during the summer months. She later relocated to San Francisco to complete high school while training on full scholarship at the prestigious San Francisco Ballet School.
At 18, Harmony accepted a company contract with Boston Ballet II and subsequently danced with Hartford Ballet under the artistic direction of Kirk Peterson. After retiring from her professional dance career, she pursued her interest in film, earning a degree in Film Studies and working for 15 years at Turner Studios.
Harmony eventually returned to her roots in ballet, joining the faculty of Atlanta Ballet, where she taught for 16 years. She has served in several leadership roles, including Assistant Director at Covington Regional Ballet and Ballet Mistress for Namari Ballet. Her experience also includes guest teaching for companies and schools such as Terminus Modern Ballet, Covington Regional Ballet, Dance makers, The Dancer’sStudio/Backstage, Praise in Motion, and Georgia Dance Conservatory.
This fall she attended the CPYB (Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet) Teacher Training Program, reflecting her dedication to pedagogical excellence and anatomical precision in ballet instruction.
In the summer of 2023, Harmony joined the faculty of Terminus Ballet School and was appointed Student Program Principal in 2024. She is honored to be part of the school’s artistic leadership team.
Harmony’s teaching approach has been widely praised for its clarity, precision, and deep engagement with students. Darren McIntyre, an RDA Adjudicator, shared the following after observing one of her classes:
“I loved that Harmony started the class (throughout the plies at the barre) by going around to each dancer during the exercise and giving them individual attention and by correcting each dancer. It connected her with each of them and you could see how invaluable that was for each dancer’s confidence and approach to the class.
Her class was clearly phrased, the exercise delivered precisely, and I loved the conversational approach to giving corrections and that relationship with the dancers individually but also collectively. The anatomical breakdown of execution and function was articulated so well, and the dancers really were learning how to use their bodies fully and safely and were achieving such incredible knowledge, it was so incredible to watch this class!
There was such clarity and an emphasizing within all the in-between steps and head/arm coordination, the following of the port de bras with the eye focus going long and beyond, the passing clearly through first, use of fifth positions of the feet positions within transitions etc. It was all so connected and clean. Their dynamics were well executed throughout. I loved it when Harmony told the dancers that their Ballet Heart is way up in their sternum (and always projecting up)! Such a beautiful analogy!
I loved the use of embas within the petite allegro, fantastic coordination.
Such a fabulous job today, I really enjoyed watching class and this incredible teacher at work! Thank you!”
